The Paralegal's rules

How the agent speaks, when it speaks, what it is allowed to do without you, and where it ends each day. All changes are voice-confirmable; nothing in here moves a deal without you.

General

Who you are, how the agent addresses you, and the practice area scope it should assume by default.

Display name · how the agent refers to you Used in transcripts, drafted comms, and the morning briefing.

Default practice scope Agent will refuse or escalate out-of-scope work unless overridden per matter.

Practice type & stage flow Pick a starter flow for new matters. Each practice has its own stage track on the matter page; you can rename or reorder stages below.
Stage flow for general

Changes save automatically. Existing matters keep their current stage value; only the labels and order they see on the matter page change.

Day-end behavior · 18:00 daily What the agent does when the working day closes — wrap up, summarize, or stay live.

Voice + dictation

Provider, voice character, language, and how aggressive turn-taking should be. Choose a voice you can spend two hours a day with.

6 settings
Voice provider Sets latency profile + transcription pricing. Grok is fastest; Anthropic + ElevenLabs gives the highest fidelity.
OpenAI Realtime · ~$0.06 in / $0.24 out per min · xAI Grok lower
Voice character Provider-specific voice options. OpenAI: alloy / verse / sage / shimmer / coral / ash / ballad / echo. xAI Grok: eve.
Turn-taking · interruption tolerance How quickly the agent yields when you start speaking. Lower = more polite, higher = faster, more talkover.
Wake phrase Spoken anywhere in the app to start a session. Disable to require button activation only.

Approval policy

The bright line between what the agent does autonomously, what it pauses to ask about, and what is hard-blocked.

9 actions
Per-action policy A typical setup: agent autonomously reads and drafts, asks before sending, refuses to bind without explicit phrase.

"Ask" routes through the right-pane approval queue. Blocked actions return a refusal and log the attempt to audit.
Approval phrase What you must say to release an "Ask" action. Confidence under 0.92 escalates to written.

Playbook defaults

Which playbook the agent grounds against when a matter doesn't specify one.

4 settings
Default playbook Used for new matters and quick-scans before a client-specific playbook attaches.
Override per-matter from the matter detail page. Add playbooks via the Vault, tagged kind=template.
Severity ladder How aggressively the agent escalates findings during scans. Conservative will flag more, faster.

Quick-scan profiles

Customize the columns the agent uses when scanning a contract. One profile per agreement type. Empty profiles fall back to industry-standard defaults (matched by document type).

Redline profiles

Standing concerns and playbook the agent uses when redlining a contract. One profile per agreement type. Empty profiles fall back to industry-standard concerns.

Drafting model

Which LLM the agent uses when you say "draft a memo" or "revise this letter." Defaults to Claude Sonnet 4.5 — a solid balance of quality and speed (10-40 seconds per draft). Pick a faster model for short docs or a deeper one for high-stakes work.

1 setting
Drafting LLM · used by draft_document + revise_document Sonnet 4.5 is the recommended default. Haiku is faster but less polished; Opus is slower but stronger reasoning. GPT and Gemini require their respective BYOK keys configured under /account/.

Document templates

Upload your firm's standard DOCX styles for each document kind. The agent uses uploaded templates either as a style guide for the LLM, or as a full template with placeholders that preserve your letterhead, headers/footers, and fonts.
